NWTT Supplement EIS/OEIS Notice of Intent
The Navy announces its intent to prepare a Supplement to the NWTT Draft EIS/OEIS, which was released for public review and comment from Jan. 24, 2014, through April 15, 2014. The Navy’s notice of intent to prepare the Supplement to the NWTT Draft EIS/OEIS was published in the Federal Register on Friday, Oct. 24. This Supplement to the Draft EIS/OEIS will focus on substantial changes to the Proposed Action due to updated training requirements and significant new information relevant to environmental concerns per 40 Code of Federal Regulations § 1502.9.
These changes include an updated requirement for increased use of sonobuoys during training in the NWTT Study Area. The Supplement will also include additional analysis related to assessing impacts of ongoing maritime security operations, such as air emissions from inland water vessel movements. Activities to be evaluated will now include maritime security escorts for Navy vessels, such as Fleet Ballistic Missile Submarines.
The Supplement to the Draft EIS/OEIS is expected to be available in early December 2014. At that time, a notice of availability will be published and the public will have an opportunity to review and comment on the Supplement during a 45-day review period. All public comments previously received on this project are still valid and are being considered in the Final EIS/OEIS.
